Fitness
Evaluation

I use scientific nutritional methods, proven across the board in all fitness industry platforms, to assist you in your weight loss goals.  Using these tools to help you in reducing weight and body fat, along with a lifestyle questionnaire and a full fitness evaluation that will hone in on any imbalances and weaknesses your body may have,  I will assist you in building a plan resulting in a path to success.  Good nutritional choices, paired with healthy eating habits, are the backbone of your strength, conditioning, and ultimate success quotient. In tandem with dietary guidelines and clinical nutrition research, we assess your current “nutrition component” (daily food and alcohol intake, food allergies, restaurant choices) and weight fluctuations to determine what’s holding you back — and what dietary modifications will speed you forward. I will supplement your workouts with a comprehensive nutrition program to kick start your metabolism. A food plan to feed muscle and shed fat. A food plan tailored to your body’s specific needs– with frequently-monitored, measurable goals. One that increases your food choice options, decreases your cravings and loss of control, and is in sync with your continuously changing lifestyle.

Medical Exercise

Clients who have been ill, injured or diagnosed with a medical condition are provided with medically oriented exercise programs to enhance health, function, performance and quality of life. Examples of our expertise in specialized medical exercise include:

HYPERTENSION

The right exercise program has statistically proven to lower the risk of high blood pressure, or hypertension. According to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), even a single session of customized activity can provide an immediate, perceivable reduction in your blood pressure. Partnering with your physician, I will be able to review your baseline data (family history, fitness level, etc.) Following ACSM’s “Rate of Perceived Exertion” guidelines, I will engineer an intensity-appropriate program that closely monitors and reduces blood pressure. This powerful combination of cardio (walking, running, or cycling) and resistance-based exercise helps prevent and lower the effects of this “silent killer”. In addition to its hypertensive-reducing benefits, an ongoing, consistent exercise program benefits cholesterol imbalances. My clients have boosted their high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or “good,” cholesterol while decreasing low-density lipoprotein (LDL), or “bad,” cholesterol. This one-two punch keeps blood flowing smoothly by lowering the buildup of plaques in arteries.

ARTHRITIS

While inflammatory (rheumatoid, spondylitis, and psoriatic) and mechanical arthritis (osteoarthritis) are notoriously painful and injurious to the joints, clear evidence exists of a halt in joint damage with early intervention.  Exercises focusing on good body mechanics can demonstrate a favorable and significant effect on pain. Following the guidelines of the Arthritis Foundation and partnering with arthritis physicians and therapists in the tri-county area, we have designed a four-tiered program consisting of:

  1. Flexibility.  Stretches muscles that fosters comfortable movement throughout the day.
  2. Muscle Strengthening. Optimizes shock absorption, lower body strength and balance.
  3. Cardiovascular Exercises. Improves efficiency of heart and lungs for improved sleep, stress reduction and weight control.
  4. Balance and Proprioception Training. Increases kinesthetic coordination and agility. In conjunction with a monitored diet, these programs have reduced our clients’ pain, fatigue, and stiffness levels.

DIABETES

With type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus, my clients can benefit significantly from a carefully-monitored program, including activity vigorous enough to enhance muscle strength and cardiovascular function. Coordinating with your physician’s recommendations for optimizing insulin levels, I employs a “risk management” program of exercises designed to maintain safe blood glucose levels, control diet, and maximize cardiovascular efficiency. The results:

  1. Increased cardio fitness and decreasing coronary artery risk
  2. Increased muscle mass for more effective insulin usage
  3. Lowered blood glucose levels achieved by burning glucose calories
  4. Lower blood pressure
  5. Improved good HDL and lower LDL and triglycerides
  6. Weight reduction and management
  7. Reduced risk of diabetes-related coronary artery disease
  8. Increased flexibility

Post Rehab

My post-rehabilitation programs are designed for clients who are recovering from a variety of disorders: neurological, cardiovascular, metabolic or musculo-skeletal.  I emphasize, target and implement post-rehab protocols to increase the probability of a complete recovery.

The medical conditions include:

  • ACL
  • Rotator Cuff Repair
  • Knee Replacements
  • Hip Replacements
  • Spinal Surgeries

Just as important as rehabilitation is prevention. Corrective exercise for injury prevention -with an emphasis on balance, agility, strengthening and overall conditioning- is an integral part of all my services.
